Planet Cancer Inaugural 25-40 yr old Retreat
Planet Cancer's first ever retreat for 25-40 year olds was held in August 2005.  Survivors from all over the country came to the Texas Hill Country for a weekend of relaxation, fun, and a chance to share the common bond of survivorship.

So much more subtle than a t-shirt!

Planet Cancer at Ride for the Roses
Kyle Steuck is a three-time Stage IV Hodgkin's survivor. Thanks to a certain Planet Cancer twist of fate, he was able to ride in the 2005 Lance Armstrong Foundation Ride for the Roses as a VIP yellow jersey team member. In the process, he realized that this 70-mile journey was really more about everything he had experienced in the last 4.5 years. To read Kyle's journal of the weekend, visit www.kylesurvived.blogspot.com/2005/10/intro.html.

The Colon Club UHL Tour
Molly McMaster, President of The Colon Club, will be traveling to 13 United Hockey League teams throughout March to play a shift in a home game for EVERY team. This will mark one of the few times in history that a woman has played on a men's professional ice hockey team, and the ONLY time in history that anyone, man or woman, has played for every team in a league in such a short period of time.  View Molly's tour schedule here!

PC Founder Adams Ecstatic At Making It Across Stage in Exceptionally High Heels, Not Falling on Lance

Lance Armstrong presented Heidi Adams with her 2005 LiveStrong Carpe Diem Award and a $5,000 grant from the Lance Armstrong Foundation for exemplifying the LiveStrong spirit in her dedication to providing resources and support to young adults with cancer. The other award winner that evening? A little tennis shoe company from Oregon called Nike. Wow!

First Descents
A kayak camp for young adults with cancer. Summer 2003 saw two successful First Descents camps with a total of 24 campers from Colorado, Texas, Arizona, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina. Both one-week camps were based at the spectacular 250-acre 7W Ranch, near Sweetwater, CO. For more info, camper interviews and photos, check out www.firstdescents.org

Marathon Man
Dean Blaine beat a spinal cord tumor. Then he ran a marthon. Guess which one was his choice? Dean Blaine, chairman of the board of Austin Candlelighters, proudly sports a Planet Cancer cap in Austin's Motorola Marathon. Dean says that, once you beat a spinal cord tumor, marathons are a piece of cake. (Or perhaps the previously mentioned spinal cord tumor is why Dean chooses to do insane things now like run marathons?)

World Record Survivor's Jump
The largest ever group of cancer survivors to jump out of an airplane included people from nine states and four countries, who had beaten 15 types of cancer. From the Austin American Statesman, July 19, 2002: “For three seconds, people from four countries and nine states, who have beaten 15 kinds of cancer, locked together thousands of feet above Central Texas to earn a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. . .[Jump organizer Tony] Albano said setting the record?which previously didn't exist?is secondary to what the group is really accomplishing. ?The real story is we're survivors,' he said.” Ed. note: Pretty damn cool.
