Hello,
Not sure what exactly I am asking for but I have a 13 year old daughter that was Diagnosed with Metastic Solid pseudo papillary pancreatic cancer a the age of 7. We have been struggling ever sense. We just recently asked for help for the first time. We had to finally come to the realization that it was o.k. to swallow your pride and allow someone to help make things slightly easier. We have always been a strong family or at least pretended to be for so long.
We do not have a large support system. We really do not have a community or very many family members to look for help. We have always just kept our heads afloat and prayed for the best. Although I am an advocate of praying it just doesn't seem to be serving our family all that well anymore. Unfortunately.
My daughter is currently in treatment and has gone through hell and back. She is a fighter and has an amazing attitude most of the time. Very strong and smart girl. She is our little rock. But lately the cancer has started to get the best of her and of our family.
We just can't afford the costs anymore. We finally got set up with Children's Hospital in Seattle on financial aid to cover bills insurance will not. But it just doesn't cover everything else. We have gotten so far into debt over the years due to the cost to keep her healthy that we just can't pull ourselves out of it.
We are afraid of losing our house.
I have had some people tell us that the house doesn't make the home and no matter where you live as long as you have family you will be fine and yes that is the ultimate truth. But honestly we have worked very hard to earn this house and our children have spent the last 5 years living in it and it is ours. We love our house. We want to keep it. Not to mention our daughter needs the stability right now. I think we all do.
We can hardly pay the bills that are required to keep the important things running. We make a choice each month who does not get paid and who does. It is shameful but it is reality.
I have had to go to part time employment to care for my daughter who is home tutored due to the illness and I just don't make enough money.
We do not have any support. Our family is not wealthy in any way. Some of them are worse off than us. So of course we would not ask for anything. We do not have any friends that would help out.
The worst part is our daughters cancer is not curable. At this point they are running the next 4 months on this chemotherapy drug and then we are out of options for treatment except for radiation which there is no research showing it has a positive effect on her type of cancer what so ever. Her cancer is EXTREMELY RARE. We are at a loss.
I just want to be able to take my children to do something fun once in awhile. We never have the extra money for anything that brings memories. We just don't. It makes me sad. I don't want to have regrets.
My daughter Caitlyn has been battling with cancer and Bipolar disorder from a very early age and she deserves more that we can offer. We all do. She has not once in her life caught a break. Everything has been difficult for her. I just can't understand why something doesn't go right for her.
So here is my plea and I am hoping it doesn't sound selfish. I am not asking for shopping sprees or for you to pay off my house or anything crazy. Just any suggestions you have for help. We just can't seem to get anywhere in searching for help on the internet. The help the hospital has given is wonderful but just not enough.
Thank You for your time.
The Bell Family.
