Hospital stays

  • Keep a bowl of candy in your room for your nurses--and make sure they know it's for them!--to ensure their constant presence in case you need something. (Dean B.)
  • Top 10 Tips to make LONG hospital stays easier (Neillie K. )

    1. Feed the nurses. You get much better service.

    2. Tell your doctor you don't want your urine measured all day long, every day...most likely you don't need it to be.

    3. Always get friends to bring you food. Ask the food deliverer not to leave a tray ? the plastic tray smell is deadly, and the hospital food may give you another disease.

    4. Make a deal with the blood techs. Ask them to come before you go to sleep and in the morning, not a million times in the middle.

    5. Put a heating pad on the IV site, it makes it feel much better.

    6. Move in! You feel so much better when you have all your stuff from home with you.

    7. Take pictures of people who come to visit. It is fun to look back on when you are through with everything.

    8. Lay down the law. Tell people what you want, because you know your body the best.

    9. The night nurses are who you really need. Get on their good side so when you cannot sleep they will hook you up!

    10. OLAY pre-soaped facial cleansing cloths make great sponge baths for when you cannot shower.
